Volunteering for Headway Essex
Headway Essex relies on the generosity of volunteers to help us to deliver our services to adults with acquired brain injury and their families.
There are a variety of volunteer roles within Headway Essex. These include front-line roles (working alongside our support workers and case workers) maintenance roles and assisting our fundraising team.
Volunteering can also help people to connect with others, build confidence and skills and help improve self-esteem and mental health.
Headway Essex are currently looking for people to help with the following volunteer roles.
South Essex Day Centre Volunteer
Our South Essex Hub is recruiting for Volunteers to assist with Activity Sessions. Our sessions are held on a Tuesday and Wednesday, from 10.00am until approx. 16.30pm.
Ideally, we are looking for individuals who have previously worked/volunteered in a day centre setting and have relevant experience helping to delivery therapeutic activity sessions. To be considered as a volunteer you must be able to commit to 1 day a week.

Volunteer Administrator
The Headway Essex Fundraising team are currently looking for someone to assist them with general office administration tasks.
Tasks include writing personalised letters to supporters, helping to maintain our supporter’s database, cash counting and record keeping, managing the distribution and collection of collection tins.

General office organisational skills
Good knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
Good level of English and Maths
Confident telephone manner

Young ABI Group Volunteers
We are looking for volunteers to assist with a new Support Group to be launched in South Essex and held once a month in the evenings. Our group is for young individuals 18 – 40. This Group will meet in a Social Setting, allowing our Young ABI group to access the community in a safe, supported environment and meet others in a similar situation, to gain Peer Support. The ideal volunteer would have worked in a Support Group environment previously, have good knowledge about Safeguarding and be fun and upbeat.

Minibus Chaperone Volunteers
We are recruiting volunteers to assist with pick and drop off clients attending the Headway Centre. Time slots include: 09:00-10:30am Monday-Friday, 14:45-16:00pm on Monday, and 15:15-16:30 Tuesday-Friday.
Location: Colchester
Skills & Requirements:
Ability to assist clients on/off the minibus
Ability to transfer clients from wheelchair to seat, and back into wheelchair
Ability to guide clients with mobility problems with a friendly and sensitive approach

Volunteer Mini Bus Drivers
We are recruiting volunteer drivers to transport our clients during the course of the day to/from the Headway Centre and to/from activities in the community. Must be able to manoeuvre wheelchairs on and off the bus.
You will require a DBS check (which Headway Essex will provide), as well as references.

Volunteer Gardener
We are recruiting for a volunteer gardener, required to tend the communal garden at the Headway centre.
We have raised flower beds that required tending and grassed areas that will require maintenance.
Headway Essex has tools which are readily available at the Headway centre.
