Finance Assistant
Job Title: Finance Assistant
Location: Colchester, Essex
Salary: £26,000 pro-rata
Contract Type: Part-Time
Hours: 15 – 22.5 hrs per week
About Us:
Headway Essex is a charity committed to providing support and services to individuals affected by brain injury. We are currently seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Finance Assistant to join our finance team. If you are passionate about finance, have a keen eye for detail, and want to work in a dynamic and rewarding environment, we would love to hear from you.
Key Objectives:
As a Finance Assistant, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth running of financial operations, focusing on cash processing, purchase ledger, sales ledger, and general financial administration.
Key Responsibilities:
• Cash Processing and Banking:
o Process all cash and cheques, ensuring they are accurately banked.
o Reconcile bank and petty cash accounts on Sage to supporting documentation, including bank statements.
• Purchase Ledger:
o Process and pay all incoming invoices, entering them into Sage.
o Perform supplier statement reconciliations and handle supplier queries.
o Process and pay employee expenses and travel claims.
• Sales Ledger:
o Produce and post day centre attendees’ invoices on Sage.
o Process all sales invoices on Sage and assist with related queries.
o Support the credit control function as required.
• Fundraising & Payroll:
o Assist with processing fundraising income, including Gift Aid claims, Just Giving, PayPal, and sales, posting to Sage.
o Assist with payroll administration and provide cover for payroll tasks when necessary.
• General Administration:
o Maintain appropriate financial spreadsheets.
o Carry out routine filing and ensure all money handling tasks follow written procedures.
o Provide regular updates to the Finance Manager and report any issues promptly.
o Assist with other finance-related tasks as required by the Finance Manager.
Skills & Experience:
• Previous experience in a finance or accounts assistant role, preferably within a charity or similar sector.
• Strong knowledge of Sage or similar accounting software.
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Good understanding of financial processes, including invoicing, reconciliations, and general ledger management.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

Support Worker – Benfleet
Job Title: Support Worker
Location: Benfleet, Essex
Starting Salary: Start £22,425 pro-rata
Contract Type: Full and Part-Time considered
About Us:
Headway Essex is a charity committed to providing support and services to individuals affected by brain injury. We are looking for an experienced support worker to join our team in Benfleet, who provide therapeutic and post-rehabilitation activities for adults living with acquired brain injury.
The ideal candidate will have previous experience of:
- Planning and running meaningful group activities.
- Key-working; identifying support plans, setting goals and carrying out reviews with individuals.
- Liaising with other professionals, agencies and organisations.
- Providing personal care and oversee the administration of medication.
- Client record keeping
You will have:
- Great communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Excellent IT Skills.
- Excellent administration and organisation skills.
- Be educated to GCSE grade 4 or above English and Maths or equivalent.
- Have an NVQ Level 2 in health and social care, or equivalent or a relevant degree e.g. psychology.
Ideally you will have:
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience of working in a health or social care setting.
- Knowledge of GDPR and Safeguarding.
Previous knowledge of brain injury is desirable, but not essential as full training is provided.
Due to the nature of the service being provided you will need to be available to work Monday to Friday between the hours of 9:00 and 17:00 in person.
